Adult life comic poem by Angela Lansbury

Adult Heaven - Seeing The Queen
by Angela Lansbury

Then I was young and very small
I was taken to see the queen
But adults stood in front so tall
That the dear queen could not be seen

I’d wanted to wave at the queen
I’d wanted to get attention
(I was told that we all should wave -
So my school could get a mention)

How old was I away back then?
Maybe just six! Maybe seven?
I thought that when I grew up tall
That I’d be in adult heaven

At first being adult was hard
You must decide, you must be brave
You have to learn to work and earn
And what to spend and how to save

Now I’ve bought a big TV screen
Which shows details of every scene
I clearly hear and see the queen
I don’t care that I can’t be seen

Now that I’ve grown and I’m adult
Kids think I’m wise, say I’m clever
So every day that I learn more
Adult life’s better than ever.
